This weekend an impressive and talented array of writers descended on Borris County Carlow, at the foothills of the backstairs mountains for the Borris Festival Of Writing and Ideas. As far as literary festivals go, this is a rare gem brimming with some of the best writers, journalists and musicians at both a local and international level. John Banville, Sebastian Barry, Deborah Levy and Donal Ryan to name but a few shared the secrets of their craft. The discussions were lively, thought provoking and honest this is testimony to the skills of interviewers such as Sinead Gleeson and Peter Murphy. Lisa Hannigan and Cathy Davy added to the enchantment of the festival with their musical talents. I was fortunate enough to sing at “The Writer’s Tears” Event alongside Lisa Hannigan and had a piece of flash fiction recorded as part of an Art and Culture Podcast presented by the extraordinarily talented Dylan Haskins and Lisa Hannigan. As part of the podcast Jerry Fish, Giles Duly, Cathy Davey and John Butler sang to us and told us stories that inspired, alarmed and humoured them.
