I have just spent the weekend at the Focal Literary Festival in Enniscorthy Co. Wexford. It was an amazing weekend I was able to indulge myself on a feast of literary talent. The range of writers was vast spanning many genres and they were all more than happy to share their knowledge of the industry with others. They included the phenomenal Wexford Billy Roche who told us how it felt to have four of his plays on stage in London at the same time. The amazing Carmel Harrington who is published with Harper Collins and launched her second book “The Life You Left” in Enniscorthy Castle on Saturday night. Another writer published with Harper Collins Lynn Marie Hulsman gave a great talk on dialogue and humour and posed the question what makes us funny? I also had the opporunity to meet Andrew Hughes the author of an amazing work of historical fiction The Convictions of John Delahunt. Andrew spoke about the importance of creating an authentic world when writing historical fiction. Emerging writers also had the amazing oppourtunity to pitch their work to the extremely talented and hard working as well as lovely agent Tracy Brennan. This is a gem of a literary festival and one to look out for next year.
A wonderful new literary festival
